RICHARD MILLE Wins Snow Polo Championship

10-Goal Player and Brand Partner Pablo Mac Donough named MVP of the final match

The World Snow Polo Championship, one of the world’s top polo events and the only snow polo tournament in North America, returned for the sixth year in a row to powder-topped Rio Grande Park in Aspen, Colorado from December 18th through 20th, 2018.

Held in the center of the world-famous Rocky Mountain ski town, with the snow-covered slopes of Ajax, Snowmass and Buttermilk looming nearby, this year’s snow polo tournament was equal parts winter glamour and cutthroat competition.

Official timekeeper Richard Mille also served as sponsor of the team helmed by brand partner and 10 goal-rated player Pablo Mac Donough. One day after leading his La Dolfina Polo Team to a 10th victory in the Argentine Open, Mac Donough—with a newly broken rib–flew from Buenos Aires to Aspen and joined his Richard Mille teammates Marc Ganzi and Martin Pepa for a series of wins in the preliminary matches at the Aspen Valley Polo Club.

Play moved to Rio Grande Park on Wednesday, where a fresh dusting of overnight snow required ponies and players to skillfully maneuver through deep powder. VIP guests took in the action from the comfort of a field-side lounge, which was furnished and provisioned in chic mountain chalet style. But it was standing-room only when each chukker got underway. In addition to the team competition, individual players took joy in battling one another; Mac Donough faced down fellow Argentinean player and head of Team St. Regis Nacho Figueras, while tournament hosts–spouses Marc and Melissa Ganzi—competed against one another in the final match.

By Thursday afternoon, Team Richard Mille secured the championship title with a 6-5 win over Team Flexjet, with Mac Donough—who was playing polo on snow for the first time–garnering MVP honors for the win. Throughout the tournament, Mac Donough wore the Richard Mille RM 53-01 Tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough, which is specifically designed to withstand polo’s extreme shocks.
