EZM 12 from Sinn Spezialuhren receives distinction for high design quality in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019
Sinn Spezialuhren has won an award in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. The mission timer EZM 12 received the Red Dot, which the renowned jury only awards to products that feature an outstanding design.
EZM 12 – designed for the air rescue service
The form and functions of the EZM 12 were designed specifically for such missions. The „Platinum Ten Minutes“ and “Golden Hour” guide the actions of the professionals and can be reliably monitored using the inner rotating bezel. The outer rotating bezel enables specific times for administering medication to be monitored. The second hand is designed of the shape of a helicopter´s rotor and features a pulse scale that enables easy recording of the heart rate every 15 seconds.
It was important to design a sturdy, reliable and easy-clean timepiece with no sharp edges to damage protective gloves. The new quick-change strap system provides a perfectly reliable solution. The rotating bezel can be removed for disinfection. Such a design not only meets the needs of emergency doctors, but has also led to the creation of a mission timer typical of the Sinn Spezialuhren brand.
Design quality is the common factor for award-winning products
“I would like to congratulate the laureates sincerely on their wonderful success. The fact that their products were able to satisfy the strict criteria of the jury bears testimony to their award-winning design quality. The laureates are thus setting key trends in the design industry and are showing where future directions may lead,” said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, in reference to the winners.
Experience and expertise get straight to the point
The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. In 2019, designers and manufacturers from 55 countries entered more than 5,500 products in the competition. In the watch category 11 products have been awarded. The international jury comprises experienced experts from different disciplines and has been convening for more than 60 years in order to select the year’s best designs. During an adjudication process that spans several days, they try out the products, discuss them and ultimately reach a well-founded decision regarding the design quality of the entries. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, their assessment focuses on criteria such as the level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, longevity and ergonomics.
“For the first time, we have nominated one of our watches for the Red Dot Award. We are more than pleased that the EZM 12 has been honored. It is a confirmation of the correctness of the principles that we follow when developing our mission timers”, explains qualified engineer Lothar Schmidt, owner of Sinn Spezialuhren.
Success to be celebrated at the award ceremony
On 8 July 2019, Sinn Spezialuhren will celebrate its success during the award ceremony. At that time the EZM 12 will join the exhibition “Design on Stage” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, which presents all of the award-winning products.
