PERRELET PRESENTS THE “TURBINE 41 TITANIUM”: FOR THE FIRST TIME, A NEW MODEL WITH A SMALLER AND LIGHTER CASE THAT UPDATES THE ICONIC COLLECTION TO CURRENT TRENDS
On the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days 2023, Perrelet is launching the new “Turbine 41 Titanium”. An absolute first for the Swiss Maison, which is introducing to its famous watch family a collection with a smaller case size: 41 mm in diameter.
It is in fact the first time that the prestigious Swiss watch manufacture has reduced the size of its iconic line since its creation in 2009. Since the initial launch, the diameter of the numerous models produced over time has averaged 44 mm, rising up to 48 mm for some timepieces.
Today, contemporary watchmaking trends privilege smaller dimensions, suitable for even the slimmest wrists. In order to adapt the Turbine to current tastes, the Maison’s designers and technicians not only had to miniaturise the architecture of the case, but also the construction of the turbine, thus further demonstrating their high-qualified expertise and savoir-faire.
The turbine, a signature feature
The spinning turbine, which recalls the aeronautical propulsion system from which it clearly takes its inspiration, requires considerable attention during its assembly, so that it can rotate freely at the slightest movement of the wrist.
Composed of 12 black anodised aluminium blades with five counterweights that allow it to slow down and return to its resting position, the turbine is a distinctive element that endows the watch with a strong and immediately recognisable identity.
While performing a purely aesthetic function, this device nevertheless requires perfect balance to ensure the striking hypnotic movement that characterises the collection and materialises the lower dials with ever-changing decorations. The new reduced dimensions have now required new tests for a perfect assembly.
The new “Turbine 41 Titanium”
Perrelet is offering the new “Turbine 41 Titanium” in ten references. There are four with a polished/brushed grade 2 titanium case and lower-dial in shades of blue, green, red or black, combined for the first time with an integrated titanium bracelet. The other six versions have a black DLC titanium case and a rubber strap matching the colour of the sub-dials: yellow, orange, red, English green, blue or black. The latter creates a total black edition with a strong visual impact.
More sober the former, more colourful the latter, all variants of the “Turbine 41 Titanium” share the sport-chic, contemporary and dynamic style that has always distinguished the collection, and on the wrist, they are extremely light and pleasant to wear thanks to the material they are crafted from.
Titanium is an extraordinarily light metal alloy with superior shocks and corrosion resistance and is completely hypoallergenic. The DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating further improves its scratch resistance and makes it unalterable over time.
The exclusive design
“Turbine 41 Titanium” keeps the aesthetics of the Turbine EVO collection launched in 2019 to commemorate the 10thanniversary of the patented Turbine technology. Indeed, the case and bracelet feature a smooth bezel, a vertically fluted case middle, triple lugs, and a prominent crown decorated with the brand’s logo. The comfortable and ergonomic five-row bracelet is made of titanium for the first time.
One detail, however, is new. The “Turbine 41 Titanium” displays slightly redesigned hour and minute hands. Similar in shape to those of the past, they are now entirely filled with white luminescent material, and are enhanced by a black profile and a horizontal segment, which divides their surface between the base and the tip.
The glowing hands as well as the embossed mixed indices on the flange allow for optimal legibility even in low light conditions.
The slim seconds hand that pairs with the hue of the lower dial for the black DLC titanium variants and has a red hue for the polished/brushed titanium models, adds a touch of colour to the display.
The in-house movement
The movement powering the “Turbine 41 Titanium” is the self-winding P-331-MH calibre. Designed entirely in-house, it is manufactured by Soprod, the Perrelet manufacture that is part of the Festina Group just like the historical Maison which dates back to 1777.
With a balance wheel working at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it is an extremely reliable and precise movement. This is guaranteed by two certifications issued by two independent institutes, the COSC and Chronofiable ®.
The P-331-MH calibre can be admired through the sapphire crystal porthole on the case back, which reveals its impeccable finishing: the rhodium-plated and circular-grained bridges, and the open-worked and rhodium-plated oscillating weight, embellished with the brand’s logo.
Availability on the market
The new “Turbine 41 Titanium” models will be on sale from September/October 2023 at authorised retailers worldwide. They will also be available on the Perrelet’s E-commerce platform in Europe and the USA.
ABOUT PERRELET
Perrelet, Bienne-based Swiss watch company whose roots date back to 1777, is world-renowned for its timepieces with “animated” dials.
Its collections, featuring the iconic and patented Double Rotor and Turbine technologies, pays tribute to founder Abraham-Louis Perrelet, the precursor of the first self-winding movement, and are recognised signature features of the brand. He is also credited with the creation of the first pedometer in 1780.
As heirs of the genius master watchmaker, every model in Perrelet’s collection is fitted with an in-house automatic movement.
Driven by a desire to innovate watchmaking, Perrelet presented the first automatic movement with a Double Rotor in 1995, enabling the movement to draw its energy from the two perfectly synchronised rotors, thus ensuring a more efficient winding force.
Since 2004, Perrelet has been part of the Festina Group, owned by the Spanish entrepreneur Miguel Rodriguez, who also owns a prestigious watchmaking pole comprising no less than six production sites, including Soprod. This latter allows the brand total autonomy in the production of its timepieces and consequently maximum freedom of creation.
Under the leadership of Miguel Rodriguez, Perrelet developed and patented the Turbine technology in 2009 and introduced the new-generation P-331-MH automatic calibre, COSC and Chronofiable® certified, which powers many of the brand’s collections as of 2019, as well as the peripheral rotor equipping the LAB Peripheral line.
2023 marks another important milestone for Perrelet: the introduction of the “Turbine 41 Titanium” collection, featuring the first ever case reduced to 41 mm instead of the traditional 44 mm or more and combined with an integrated titanium bracelet.
